As many will know, we have now tried three times for a Heritage Lottery Fund grant without success. The first two applications would have provided not only for essential repairs, but for improved disabled access, toilets and simple catering facilities. Our third attempt was scaled down to allow for little more than essential repairs, but even this was unsuccessful. This is very disappointing. The main reason for refusal was that the work needed was not urgent enough and there are many churches in far worse repair than ours.
This means we will have to use our own funds to carry out the most urgent work on the exterior flint facing on the north-west corner of the north aisle. Other repairs may have to wait. We are only able to have the resources to do this because of the hard work that so many people put in at the Fete and over the Festival weekend and shows how important it is to make these events a success.
