SCHOOL NEWS - April 2016

In March Miss Hardingham’s class enjoyed a Mad Science Workshop in which they learnt about planets, astronauts and white light from the sun. They also watched experiments and sampled the sort of food that astronauts eat. Everyone found it really interesting and tasty!
At Easter sadly we said goodbye to Mrs Pointer, our Federation School Support Manager who has been at North Elmham since 2010. She has worked tirelessly to keep the schools working smoothly and we will all miss her very much. We wish her well in her new role at Northgate High School.
We are pleased to be in the first half of the summer term and look forward to the promise of better weather. This half term we are offering tennis and football after school clubs and we hope that these will prove to be as popular as usual. We generally hope to be outside much more this half term. We continue to be involved in the Schools Sports Partnership with several competitions coming up.
We return to school after the Easter Break on April 11th and break up for half term on May 27th returning on June 6th.

As promised I can update everyone on our final figure we received from The Travelling Book Fair which came into school back in February. We took over £500 in sales which gave us a fantastic commission figure of £269.77 which is more than we received last year, and this is now being split between the classes so they can buy new books for the library. Thanks everyone involved!!!
Our ‘Easter Treat, After School Film’ was well received and we had plenty of support and interest from the children. The chosen film was “Inside Out”, a great choice by the children. There were plenty of snacks and drinks to go round and a chocolate egg at the end for everyone. There were lots of colouring/craft activities going on as well. Thanks again to all who supported this event.
*Important date for your diary*

As Spring approaches the children will be taking part in activities based around World Book Day, which is on Thursday 3rd March. On Wednesday 16th March we are having a visit from the author David Bedford, hopefully he will be able to inspire the next generation of story writers!
We are very pleased to be able to announce that our Sugar Collection made at Christmas helped to supply 7000 festive meals for the homeless around East Anglia, and that our Pyjama Day (organised entirely by our School Council) raised a magnificent £98 for Young Carers. Thank you for your support with these charitable events.
On 10th March we have Tempest Photography in school to take Class Photos. We find that these are particularly popular with our Year 6 pupils as they are moving onto High School at the end of the Summer and these are lovely reminders of the School and their classmates in future years.
FONES are arranging an Easter Treat for the children, an After School Film to be held in the school Hall. Details will be sent out to the children via school.
We break up for the Easter Holidays on THURSDAY 24th March 2016 and return to school on Monday 11th April 2016.

We have set a date for our annual Friends Of North Elmham” Family Fun Festival” which will take place on Saturday 9th July 2016 on the school field. 4pm onwards. As you are reading this, we have had our first festival meeting and plans are well underway. More info will follow in due course. So please save this date in your diary/calendar and do come down and support our local school. It’s FREE ENTRY !!! Lots to eat, drink and plenty of activities for the whole family.
Also we have just had the Travelling Book Fair in school and on behalf of the committee we would like to thank all our parents/carers for their support and generosity in making our Book Fair a great success. We really did have some enthusiastic children wanting to update their book collection which is always great to see. Early indications show as I am writing this is that we have beaten our commission total of last year and this makes promising news for our new total which I will update with everyone in next month’s news. FONES have also planned an “Easter Treat Movie Date” for the children which will take place on Wednesday 23rd March 2016 in the school hall 3.15pm - 5.15pm with lots of popcorn, snacks and drinks. We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Half term!

As we speed through the beginning of another year the school news continues to come thick and fast!
First and foremost we are pleased to be able to announce that as well as being part of a Federation with Bawdeswell Community Primary School we are now also in Partnership with Swanton Morley VC Primary School. Mr Richard Lord will be the Executive Headteacher and he, along with both sets of Governors, are putting together a leadership team that enhances the experience of both the pupils and their parents/carers across all three schools.

The children took part in a Friendship Day – learning the importance of having friends both at school and in the wider community, and learning how to deal with conflict in an appropriate way.

We have offered pupils the following After School Clubs for the first part of the half term:

Multiskills Sports Club
Young Film Makers Club
Clay Barn Activity Club

We hope that they make full use of these opportunities and enjoy the chance to take part in something different.

Our Year 1 and Year 2 pupils have taken part in a new immunisation scheme arranged by the Government, to have the flu vaccine administered in school. We hope this will protect them and that the scheme proves successful.
Later in the term we will be offering our older pupils the chance to take part in the ever popular Bikeability Training Scheme, giving them the opportunity to become safe and responsible cyclists.

Please can we remind parents (again) that should the worse happen and we need to close the school due to bad weather (hopefully not!) an announcement will be made on local radio and also details will be available on the Norfolk

Schools Website

We break up for Half –Term on Friday 12th February 2016 and return to school on Monday 22nd February 2016.
